Our on-site, non-invasive vascular laboratory offers a wide variety of Ultrasound and Doppler exams for the diagnosis of carotid, renal, peripheral and aortic vascular disease.
ULTRASOUND EXAMSAn Ultrasound is a high-energy sound wave. The echoes it makes form a picture of the body tissue called a sonogram which helps us to make well-informed diagnostic and treatment decisions. Listed below are the types of Ultrasound exams we routinely perform.
Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound – Detects an aneurysm or stenosis of
the abdominal aorta.
Arterial Ultrasound – Identifies stenosis, a thoracic aneurysm, or an aneurysm in the arteries or an extremity.
Bypass Graft Ultrasound – Views a bypass graft to make sure the repair
is working properly.
Carotid Ultrasound – Locates stenosis in the carotid arteries, and also confirms
the success of carotid surgery.
Vein Mapping – Measures the size of a superficial vein in the leg or arm in preparation for surgical bypass and dialysis access placement.
Venous Ultrasound – Uncovers deep vein thrombosis (DVT or blood clot),
non-functioning valves, or compression (as in thoracic outlet syndrome) in
the veins of the extremities.
DOPPLER EXAMS A Doppler is a high-powered stethoscope that uses low-intensity ultrasound to determine blood flow, direction and speed in arteries or veins. We use our Doppler to perform the evaluations listed below.
Peripheral Arterial Evaluation (PAE) – Doppler is used to detect PAD in the arteries of the extremities and to confirm the success of angioplasty.
PAE with Exercise – Doppler is used to examine the arteries of the extremities
as a patient walks on a treadmill.
Ankle/Brachial Index (ABI) – This abbreviated form of the PAE measures
blood pressures in the ankles and arms for comparison. It often accompanies bypass graft imaging.
