Atherectomy

This procedure removes plaque from the arteries using a rotating shaver on the end of a catheter. The catheter is inserted into the body through a tiny puncture and threaded into the narrowed artery. Its miniature rotating blade is then activated to shave plaque from the artery walls. Plaque collects in the catheter and is removed. The whole process usually takes less than two hours. Atherectomy restores normal blood flow to the artery – and health to the affected area.
